The claims

Apple sits out the AI-capex arms race — no hyperscaler-scale spending — so free cash flow stays protected.

HOLDING · Still no AI-capex buildout; operating income beat bull ($35.7B) and net income hit $29.8B, so free cash flow held up.

Apple monetizes AI by building it into devices, not renting compute — expanding the installed base and the upgrade rate, so hardware sales and Services both grow.

HOLDING · Net sales cleared base ($109.4B, though below my bull) and earnings beat bull across op income, net income, and EPS — consistent with the installed base and Services still compounding.

Rising memory costs are a temporary, manageable drag on gross margin — offset by inventory and management mitigation — not a structural hit.

UNCLEAR · Margins actually beat this quarter (op income above bull), so no structural hit yet — but management still guides memory-cost pressure to build past the June quarter, and a tariff-refund question now hangs over gross margin. Not settled.

The thesis

Hyperscalers are spending hundreds of billions to rent out compute, and it's draining their free cash flow. Apple sat out.

It doesn't build data centers.

It puts AI on the iPhone and Mac people already own, which pulls in new buyers and gives current owners a reason to upgrade. More devices sold, replaced sooner, feeding a Services base that gets larger and harder to leave. Because Apple skipped the buildout, its free cash flow stays intact to fund the buyback, and the buyback shrinks the share count that lifts EPS.

Gross margin is where this can go wrong. Memory prices are climbing, and management expects that to keep squeezing margins past the June quarter. Inventory covers part of the hit while they look for other fixes. Apple gets to win this AI cycle without joining the spending race. Watch whether the memory drag fades or settles in.

The record

JUNE 2026 FY2026-Q3 reported

All four metrics beat their bull case: net sales came in at $109,417M against a bull forecast of $110,492M (just under bull, above base), while operating income ($35,695M), net income ($29,789M), and EPS ($2.02) each exceeded their respective bull-case figures of $34,177M, $28,575M, and $1.95. Even though all numbers showed strong performance, I have a concern regarding the tariffs refund. It could potentially impact the gross margin.
